A healthy dog is a happy dog. For all of your veterinary needs, Uptown Veterinary Hospital is one of Skipper’s favorite Uptown vets. If you need a trusted Uptown vet to care for your four-legged friend, look no further. Their veterinarian, Jen Larson, is licensed in NC and treats all types of pets. Your pet’s health and wellbeing is important to them, as they take every possible measure to give your animals the care they deserve. From preventative care, specialized diagnostics, dental special services, and medical services, the Uptown Veterinary Hospital offers everything your pet may need. Did you know that puppies need to visit the vet every 3 to 4 weeks until they are 16 weeks old? Dogs need shots for rabies, distemper-parvo, and other diseases. After 1 year, it’s recommended that dogs visit the vet for yearly checkups from ages 1-7. For senior dogs, 7-10+ years old, vets suggest twice-yearly checkups to ensure no behaviors have changed.

Dog Parks in Uptown
Romare Bearden Park
300 S. Church St. Charlotte, NC 28202
Located in the heart of Uptown, Romare Bearden Park is a popular Uptown dog park for both pet owners and their dogs in the Third Ward. Featuring 2 gardens, a concession stand, 2 greens, a water fountain, a beautiful view of Uptown, and 5.4 acres, this is one of the best dog parks in Uptown for you and your furry friend to enjoy a walk. Romare Bearden Park does not feature an exclusive dog-friendly area and is close to the road and cars, so your furry friend should stay on their leash at this park. During the spring and summer, Romare Bearden Park hosts multiple events such as Party In The Park, Bearden Music Series, and Music Box Lunch. With a view of downtown for you, and large grassy areas for your dog, this is a great dog park in Uptown if you live close to Third Ward.
First Ward Park
301 E. 7th St. Charlotte, NC 28202
One of Uptown’s newest parks, First Ward Park is a centrally located Uptown dog park in the First Ward neighborhood. Featuring 4.6 acres, water fountains, and large grassy areas, First Ward Park is a great place to enjoy a sunny day with your dog. Completed in 2015, this park completed the city’s hope to have a park in each ward of the city. When visiting First Ward Park, ensure to keep your dog on their leash as there is no enclosed area for your dog to run around safely. If you’re visiting in the summer, we recommend going in the morning or evening because there is a lack of shady areas in this park. First Ward Park is open from 6:00 am – 8:00 pm every day of the week. Schedule a dog play date with some friends and enjoy a day at the dog park in Uptown with your four-legged friend.
Fourth Ward Park

Located near the residential neighborhood of Fourth Ward, the Fourth Ward Park is a three-acre Uptown dog park and nature preserve. Featuring walking trails, 2 decorative water fountains, and a playground, this Uptown dog park is an ideal place to enjoy with your dog. Hidden away from the rush of Uptown, enjoy the walkable path throughout the park but remember to keep your dog on a leash as there is no fully enclosed area for them to run around. If you live close to the Fourth Ward neighborhood, this is a beautiful dog park in Uptown to get outside with your dog and enjoy warm Charlotte weather.

Mosaic benches and stools are tucked away in shady side paths, great to take use of during warm summer days. This small and serene green space is tucked away in the city, but remember to keep your furry friend on a leash as there are no enclosed areas for your dog to run around. For residents near the Second Ward, The Green is a nice change of scenery for you and your dog if you are stuck in a similar daily walking routine.
About Uptown Charlotte
Places to Take Your Pup
“It makes a huge difference to know that they’re well taken care of, even if it’s not by me. My days are like 52 card pickup and sometimes I just can’t make it home to get them out. It makes me feel so good to have an extended family in Skipper to support us.”
Corri with Beef & Baby
“When work gets crazy and I can’t give Sonny the attention he needs, I have Skipper to take care of him. If Skipper went away, I would be in a panic. You truly are a lifeline for us. I couldn’t imagine what I would do without you.”
Trent with Sonny
“I love Skipper and so does my pup, Marni! Their walkers and booking systems are top-notch and everyone who works for them really loves the animals they help care for. Marni is young and incredibly active, and they do a great job helping her expel some of her energy while I’m at work.”
Lauren with Marni
“Skipper is a cut above the rest. What they provide for all your pets, at the pricing that they do – it’s unbeatable. The pictures, written report and ease of ability to schedule online makes scheduling out an appointment for my dogs extremely easy for my busy life. Not only that, the owners and walkers are all clearly passionate about pets, and that is what is most important!”
Katrina with Zoey, Bullet, & Carmella
